The Backgammon World Team Championships take place in London this August and for the first (and potentially only) time there will be a Scottish team there. As part of their fundraising to cover travel and accomodation costs, Dean from the Backgammon Ayr club is raffling off a special bottle of whisky.

Distilled in 1998 on the very day Scotland faced Brazil in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup in France, this exceptional single grain Lowland whisky has spent 28 years maturing in a Bourbon barrel through every high and low of Scottish football.
Now finally released, it is bottled at a robust 49.5% ABV, with just 195 bottles produced worldwide. The prize is Bottle 8 of 195, making this an especially desirable example of an already rare release.
This remarkable bottle has been generously donated by Finn Thomson Whisky, one of Scotland’s oldest whisky families, with proceeds helping to send the Scottish Backgammon Team to their inaugural appearance at the World Backgammon Championships in London in August 2026.
In addition, 10% of all proceeds will be donated to the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal. Since 2003, the charity has made donations to children’s causes in every country visited by the Scotland national team, an achievement maintained without interruption.
By entering, you’ll not only have the chance to win an extraordinary bottle of whisky with a unique footballing story, but you’ll also be directly supporting Scotland’s top backgammon players as they represent the country on the world stage.
